On Wednesday, 23 May 2007 the Cancer Institute NSW hosted the NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research 2007. This prestigious and widely recognised event, which is in its second year, is an annual acknowledgement of the excellent cancer research work occurring in NSW.
The NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research is a formal black-tie evening that draws together over 300 of NSW’s clinical opinion leaders, cancer researchers, key cancer control stakeholders, prominent government officials, leaders in biomedical & clinical research and the broader business community.
The 2007 dinner featured a drawcard of international speakers, high-profile MCs and entertainment.
Since 2004, The Cancer Institute NSW has funded over $40 million in cancer research across NSW. This funding has dramatically expanded cancer research capacity in NSW hospitals and affiliated research institutes. The Awards evening allows the health and medical fraternity and the business community to pay tribute to the state’s best cancer researchers and clinicians. The night specifically applauds those whose commitment and talent has had the greatest impact upon cancer treatment, clinical trials, prevention and research.

Premier's Award for Outstanding Cancer Researcher of the Year
The NSW Premier's Award for Outstanding Cancer Researcher of the Year was established to honour an individual who has made significant and fundamental contributions to any field of cancer research in NSW. These contributions must have had a lasting impact on the cancer field and must have demonstrated sustained progress against cancer.
The Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research Fellow and Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research Scholar will be based on the review of Progress Reports for Cancer Institute NSW funded Fellows and Scholars. These reports will be considered by the independent interstate Grants Review Committee.
