NSW Oncology Group: NSWOG

In August 2005, NSWOG was established by the Cancer Institute NSW to bring together approximately 700 cancer specialist doctors and nurses, consumers, patients and planners.

NSW Oncology Group has been established with 12 cancer specific groups and 8 discipline groups who will:

  • Develop best-practice methods and pathways for clinical care and review standard treatments.
  • Identify data needed to monitor outcomes and to improve cancer outcomes in NSW.
  • Promote sub specialised knowledge and education for each type of cancer.
  • Promote participation in clinical trials.

All NSWOG groups report to the Cancer Services Advisory Committee and the Quality and Clinical Effectiveness Committee of the Cancer Institute NSW. The committees of NSWOG are supported by a secretariat provided by the Cancer Institute NSW.

The Cancer Institute NSW is supporting a number of key activities identified by NSWOG as the main area of importance in their cancer field.
