BreastScreen NSW
The Cancer Institute NSW is responsible for cancer screening in NSW.
BreastScreen NSW is a free breast screening service for women aged 50 to 69 years. This government funded service is managed by the Cancer Institute NSW and aims to detect breast cancer in its early stages, when treatment can be most effective.
The Institute's immediate aims for BreastScreen are to:- Provide a better client-oriented service for the women of NSW
- Provide free access to all women aged over 40 years who request it
- Increase the recruitment of women in the target age group of 50-69 years, where the gains are largest based on clinical trials evidence
- Provide consistent, efficient and co-ordinated policies and business practices in the screening program across NSW
- Constantly improve the quality of the service consistent with national standards.
