Cancer Research Funding
The Cancer Institute NSW has introduced the first NSW focused cancer research grants program and has to date awarded over $90 million for cancer research. Applications are sought from all NSW based universities, cancer services, hospitals, Area Health Services and other relevant research agencies.
Funding is competitive and calls for applications are made through media advertising, on this website under Current Opportunities and through direct mailing via the Cancer Institute NSW Contacts Database. The guidelines outlining the specific details of the grants for each Funding Schedule are also posted here. The Guidelines and Application Forms from previous rounds can be found at Previous Opportunities.
Grant applications are reviewed by the Research Grants Review Committee which is done in accordance with the Cancer Institute NSW Peer Review Policy. The committee acts independently and is made up of interstate experts chaired by Professor Richard Fox AO, Director of Research, St Vincent’s Hospital, Victoria. The Committee may also call on additional interstate and international experts to provide further in-depth peer review. The Committee is responsible for the allocation of competitive research funds with recommendations being notified to the Cancer Institute NSW Board.
