Requests for BreastScreen Data and Information

BreastScreen NSW will not disclose client's information in any circumstances unless it has client's consent. Various types of requests for information will come to BreastScreen NSW via the 13 20 50 hotline. The Administrative Support Officer from BreastScreen NSW will then follow the procedures listed below to assist the requestors in obtaining relevant information.

Common types of requests that come through the 13 20 50 hotline are:

  • from clients requesting personal and health information about or for themselves
  • from GPS or health workers for client's information

In such cases, the Breast Screen administration support officer will:

  • Check the purposes of request for information.
  • Seek information from the requestors for the location and date of the client's last screening visit. The Administrative Support Officer from BreastScreen NSW will then forward such requests to the relevant Screening Assessment Services (SAS).

All requests for information are required to be forwarded to the appropriate SAS. The relevant SAS is obliged to inform the requestor of their local policies and procedures.

Other types of enquiries or requests for aggregated, anonymous, data such as the percentage of women attending BreastScreening Services (participation rates), or queries relating to procedures for obtaining data for research projects will be assessed for feasibility and appropriateness by the Data Custodian. These should be directed to:
