Spokespeople

The Cancer Institute NSW has experienced health professionals who are capable of providing comment and expert opinion on all facets of cancer control.

Key spokespeople at the organisation include:

Professor David Currow - Cancer Institute CEO and Chief Cancer Officer NSW

As the Chief Cancer Officer NSW, Professor Currow is a leading expert on cancer control, prevention, treatment and care.

He has an intimate knowledge of the NSW Health system as well as the optimum care and treatment that should be provided to cancer patients.

Prior to joining the Cancer Institute NSW Professor Currow was the foundation Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Australia, the Australian Government's national cancer control agency.

David is trained as a physician in internal medicine with sub-speciality training in palliative medicine. He currently holds the position as Chair of Palliative and Supportive Services at Flinders University in South Australia.

Professor Sanchia Aranda - Head of Cancer Services and Information

Professor Aranda understands all facets of clinical treatment and is an expert in cancer care and education having worked in cancer and palliative care for more than 30 years.

She has considerable experience in cancer control at a federal and state level through her roles on the Advisory Council of Cancer Australia and the Victorian Cancer Action Plan Implementation Committee.

She is also Chair of the Advisory Committee for the National Centre for Gynaecological Cancers and a board member of both the Union for International Cancer Control and the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care.

Professor Aranda recently joined the Institute from the Peter MacCullum Cancer Institute in Melbourne where she worked as the Director of Cancer Nursing Research.

Anita Dessaix - Head of Prevention

Anita has worked in cancer prevention since 2006.

She is currently the Director of Prevention for the Institute and responsible for the creation and dissemination of major campaigns and material such as anti-tobacco and melanoma awareness campaigns.

Anita has a Masters in Public Health Administration and has a complex understanding of the benefits that can be gained through prevention and public health initiatives.
