Prevention and Early Detection

Around one in two men and one in three women in NSW will develop cancer at some point during their lifetimes. The good news is we don’t have to leave it to fate: most cancers can be prevented.

For some age groups this can mean screening regularly for breast, cervical and bowel cancer, for others it is simply about making small lifestyle changes, which can reduce our risk of cancer by up to two thirds.

We can do this by not smoking, protecting our skin and eyes from the sun, making healthy food choices, exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight.
