Early diagnosis of bladder cancer will be important to reduce the mortality of this disease in the future.

Bladder cancer is the 12th most common cause of new cancers in New South Wales and the 13th most common cause of death. In 2005 bladder cancer accounted for 3.0% of all new cancers in males and 1.4% in females. Although the burden from bladder cancer is less than some of the larger volume cancers, unfortunately survival is still poor, making this cancer an important one for further investigation.
