In 2005, 34,227 people were diagnosed with cancer in NSW; and 12,513 people died from cancer.

Cancers of the prostate, bowel, breast, lung and melanoma were responsible for 61% of all new cases.

There were 221,602 individuals alive at the end of 2004 who were diagnosed between 1980 and 2003.
