Projections of cancer incidence and mortality provide a valuable indication of the current and future burden on the NSW health system. They better inform planning and decision making, and assist in the efficient allocation of resources to meet the future needs of the health system for the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer.

This report projects cancer incidence and mortality in NSW, for all cancers and selected individual cancers, and cancer incidence in each Area Health Service (AHS), for all cancers and the most common cancers, by sex from 2007 to 2011. These projections represent best estimates of future cancer incidence and mortality, based on trends in historical cancer data and forecast increases in the size and age-distribution of the NSW population.
