Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings are proposed as the gold standard in providing multidisciplinary care for cancer patients.

However, the direct link to patient outcomes is not well documented. Our findings indicate that the role of a MDT depends on the incidence and complexity of a cancer and the availability of evidence based protocols.

A MDT survey was administered in 2006 and 2008 to identify cancer MDTs in NSW and determine stage of development and changes after 2 years. The findings supported differences by tumour stream which were further examined using an online survey and consultation workshop for cancer clinicians.
