Since 2004, the Cancer Institute NSW has invested more than $60 million to support the development of a clinical structure to meet future demand for cancer services.

This has been achieved mainly through the funding of around 140 positions within the NSW Health system at an annual cost of $11 million.

We fund a variety of positions, including:

  • directors of area cancer services
  • managers of area cancer services
  • cancer service development managers
  • cancer care coordinators
  • lead clinicians
  • psycho-oncology
  • cancer genetics.

We work closely with each Local Health Network to make sure individual community priorities are addressed when allocating funds for each position. Our ultimate aims in funding these positions are to improve:

  • clinical leadership
  • coordination of care
  • multidisciplinary care
  • patient-centred care.
