Implementation and measuring performance

Implementing the NSW Cancer Plan is a collaborative effort by a number of Government and non-Government health agencies and services.

Each goal has a number of objectives, strategies and actions to move towards the achievement of these goals.

Implementation

Implementing the NSW Cancer Plan will rely on collaboration and partnerships.

The Cancer Institute NSW works with those involved in the planning and delivery of prevention, screening and cancer related programs and services to bring the actions of the NSW Cancer Plan to life.

Each goal has a number of objectives, strategies and actions to move towards the achievement of these goals.

Lead agencies have been identified for each action, and they will work with a range of collaborating agencies to make progress towards the goals.

The improvement of cancer outcomes in NSW will only be achieved by working together across the state with:

  1. Local Health Districts
  2. Primary Health Networks
  3. Specialty Health Networks
  4. NSW Ministry of Health
  5. NSW Health Pillars
  6. Government and non-government agencies

Evaluation

The Cancer Institute NSW will monitor the progress of the NSW Cancer Plan with the Cancer Plan Performance Index, an annual cycle of reporting made against the objectives of the NSW Cancer Plan.

To ensure the responsiveness of the NSW Cancer Plan and maintain its flexible implementation, a mid-point review will also be undertaken in 2018. A Monitoring and Evaluation Framework will be developed to guide ongoing evaluation as part of the review process.

The Cancer Plan Performance Index will report progress against the objectives of the NSW Cancer Plan. Regular updates will be provided and published on the Cancer Institute NSW website.

Many successful initiatives have been developed as a result of the previous NSW Cancer Plan 2011-2015; in the areas of collaborating, facilitating, investing and education.
