Treatment and care
Cancer is not one disease, but many different diseases each requiring specific treatment and care.
Treating cancers to get the best possible outcomes for people with the disease can be very complex. Health professionals require the latest evidence, research and information on treatments to ensure patient safety and the best outcome possible from their treatment and care.
Cancer treatment information
The Cancer Institute NSW provides the most up to date, evidence-based treatment information for health professionals and patients on its eviQ website.
All the treatment information on eviQ is developed with the help of over 200 specialist cancer clinicians, who develop treatment protocols based on the latest local and international evidence.
eviQ is used by health professionals across Australia and globally, making sure that people with cancer receive the highest standard of cancer treatments, wherever they live.
Education and training for cancer health professionals
The Cancer Institute NSW provides online education and training for health professionals who treat and care for people with cancer on the eviQ: Cancer Education Online website. The online training modules on the website aim to standardise and promote evidence-based practice in cancer treatment and care.
Supporting cancer services
The Cancer Institute works closely with each Local Health District to support cancer services as they meet the needs of their community. We do this by investing in local activities that will ultimately promote clinical leadership, integrated cancer care and patient-centred care. The Institute also reports local activity data back to Local Health Districts to inform and improve cancer services as part of the Reporting for Better Cancer Outcomes program.
Investing in the cancer treatments of tomorrow
The Cancer Institute NSW is the largest funder of cancer research in NSW. We provide grants and support clinical trials that will rapidly advance research discoveries into new treatments to improve outcomes for people with cancer.
