Liver cancer
Cancer that starts in the liver is called primary liver cancer. The main types of primary liver cancer include:
- hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
- cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer)
- angiosarcoma.
Cancers that start elsewhere in the body can also spread to the liver. This is called secondary liver cancer. It is not the same as primary liver cancer and is treated differently.
The Cancer Institute NSW recommends that all people with cancer have their care overseen by a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
In addition, people with liver cancer may need complex treatment and should be seen at a specialist centre.
