Acute leukaemia
Acute leukaemia is a type of blood or haematological cancer that develops in the bone marrow. The two main types of acute leukaemia are:
- acute lymphocytic leukaemia (ALL)
- acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
Acute leukaemia develops and progresses quickly, so treatment starts immediately after diagnosis.
The Cancer Institute NSW recommends that all people with cancer have their care overseen by a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
