Oesophageal cancer
Oesophageal cancer affects the oesophagus, the tube which carries food from the back of the mouth to the stomach. It is more common in men and in people over 60 years of age.
The two main types of oesophageal cancer are:
- adenocarcinoma, which usually affects in the lower part of the oesophagus
- squamous cell carcinoma, which is more common in the upper part of the oesophagus.
The Cancer Institute NSW recommends that all people with cancer have their care overseen by a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
