What you need to know about lung cancer

There are several key things people can do to reduce their risk of lung cancer.

Stop smoking

Quitting smoking helps prevent lung cancer. Even after a lung cancer diagnosis, quitting smoking further improves the chance of survival.

Listen out for symptoms

Everyone in our community should be aware of lung cancer symptoms, so it can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. The chance of surviving lung cancer is best when the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage.

Seek appropriate treatment

Surgery markedly increases the chance of survival for people with early non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

People suspected of having NSCLC should be referred to a specialist multidisciplinary team promptly for evaluation and appropriate care.
