Implementation, monitoring and evaluating progress

Governance of the NSW Cancer Plan

Clear governance structures will support effective, coordinated and collaborative implementation of the NSW Cancer Plan (the Plan). The Cancer Institute NSW (the Institute) is the custodian of the Plan, working together with, partners, stakeholders and other agencies to deliver key activities and initiatives under the priorities and strategic actions in the Plan.

A NSW Cancer Plan Advisory Committee has been established consisting of senior representatives of key stakeholder agencies identified as leads and collaborators as well as focus population representatives. The NSW Cancer Plan Advisory Committee:

  • provides strategic direction to ensure the goals and priorities are achieved, including development of implementation plans.
  • provides advice relating to implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of the Plan.
  • promotes and facilitates engagement and communication between all partners, stakeholders and agencies involved in implementing the NSW Cancer Plan.

Implementation of the NSW Cancer Plan

The purpose of the NSW Cancer Plan is to provide the overarching direction for cancer control in NSW. The NSW Cancer Plan Implementation Plan 2024-2025 (second Implementation Plan) has been developed by the Institute, in consultation with key stakeholders and partners, to support the achievement of the goals and priorities in the NSW Cancer Plan.

It details how we will address the priorities and achieve the goals in practice through a range of activities, the responsible collaborators and stakeholders, and the timeframes for delivering these within the life of the Plan.

Monitoring and evaluation of the NSW Cancer Plan

Monitoring and evaluating is vital to understand progress towards meeting the NSW Cancer Plan goals and target outcomes and to support continued improvements. This includes:

Evaluations

Evaluation of programs and initiatives examines whether programs are meeting, or are on track to meet, intended results and whether those results are being achieved efficiently. Evaluation of programs and initiatives builds evidence for improved program design, delivery and outcomes and supports decision-making. Below are some completed evaluations which will be added to over time.
