Hereditary cancer conditions can be passed from generation to generation.
The Cancer Institute NSW has support and resources to help people learn about hereditary cancers and protect themselves if they are at risk.
While there are a number of hereditary related cancers, the conditions focused on include:
- Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP)
- Lynch syndrome (previously known as Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colorectal Cancer HNPCC)
- Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome (PJS)
- MUTYH (MYH) Associated Polyposis (MAP)
- Other polyposis syndromes (i.e. Juvenile Polyposis, Serrated Polyposis, Mixed Polyposis)
The Hereditary Cancer Registry (HCR) provides information, support and a screening reminder service to people affected by hereditary cancer in NSW and the ACT. Find more information about the HCR and data held.
