What is the NSW Quitline?

The NSW Quitline 13 7848 (13 QUIT) is a confidential telephone information and counselling service, managed by Cancer Institute NSW, to help smokers and vapers quit and stay quit.  

Quitline also provides quitting tips and information to carers, family members and other health professionals.

Call 13 7848 (13 QUIT) to speak to a Quitline counsellor. You can also leave a message and request a counsellor to call you back.

When can I call NSW Quitline?

NSW Quitline is available:

  • Monday to Friday: 8am to 8pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 5pm.
  • Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed.

How can NSW Quitline counsellors help?

NSW Quitline counsellors are trained professionals who provide: 

  • One-off information and ongoing counselling support to help people quit vaping and/or smoking.
  • A free counselling program for people who smoke and/or vape to help them quit. The Quitline counselling program is tailored to individual needs and can increase a person’s chances of successfully quitting for good. 
  • A Quit Kit containing helpful information and strategies about quitting about quitting. The kits are available to order in English, Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and Vietnamese.
  • Access to Aboriginal counsellors who provide culturally safe and individually tailored counselling support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander callers.
  • Dedicated language lines in Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and Vietnamese. Callers who speak other languages can call the Quitline and the counsellor will arrange for an interpreter.
  • Quitting information and support for family and friends of people who smoke and/or vape.
  • Quitting advice for health professionals working with people who smoke and/or vape.
