Cancer clinical trials program
Our purpose
The Cancer Institute NSW is committed to advancing cancer clinical trials through financial and educational support.
We aim to:
- make NSW a leading destination for clinical trials and achieve optimal health outcomes for cancer patients in NSW
- facilitate access and implementation of cutting-edge clinical trials
- increase patient understanding and participation in cancer clinical trials
- invest in clinical trial infrastructure across NSW, enabling the safe and efficient conduct of cancer clinical trials
Our goals are to:
- ensure clinical trials are accessible to all in NSW
- make clinical trials a viable treatment option for all cancer patients
- ensure clinical trial units have the resources and expertise needed to effectively manage an increasing number of cancer clinical trials
The key actions of the Cancer Institute NSW’s Clinical Trials Program include building the capability of the cancer control workforce, investing in research infrastructure and improving the cancer clinical trial landscape for patients and the clinical trial workforce.
The Cancer Institute NSW does not conduct clinical trials.
Clinical Trials Funding Model
The Cancer Institute NSW’s Clinical Trials Funding Model provides financial support to clinical trial units conducting cancer clinical trials across NSW. Clinical Trial Units use the funding to grow and develop the workforce and may supplement costs of cancer clinical trials.
Performance Indicators
Using clinical trial activity data submitted into the Clinical Trials Program’s Portal, the Cancer Institute NSW reports on cancer clinical trial performance indicators at the local health district (LHD) and state-wide level. It provides information to cancer care services about clinical trial activity in their sector and how it compares to others in the state. Indicators are presented in Cancer Institute NSW Reporting for Better Cancer Outcomes (RBCO) publications.
Collaborations and Partnerships
The Clinical Trials Program works collaboratively with several stakeholders, subject matter experts and community leaders to ensure access to cancer services is underpinned by world-class research and person-centric. The aim of these collaborations is to increase access, understanding and participation in cancer clinical trials for people in NSW.
Supporting Cancer Clinical Trials Workforce
Through collaboration with several partners, the Clinical Trials Program develops tools and resources to increase site capacity and capabilities, improve efficiencies and promote clinical trials. Opportunities are shared via email to clinical trial units.
