Dr Nunki Hassan
Dr Nunki Hassan is a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Sydney whose innovative research focusses on leukaemic stem cells in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
AML is a type of blood or haematological cancer that develops in the bone marrow. It is an aggressive cancer that can develop and progress quickly, so Dr Hassan's research is vital to improving the survival rates of people diagnosed with AML.
Dr Hassan's pioneering research zeroes in on a particular mechanism found in AML's leukaemic stem cells that is critical to their survival. By targeting and inhibiting this particular mechanism, her team have discovered a potential pathway to effectively eradicate this leukamia and achieve a positive outcome for patients.
